Yesterday, I was driving on the Mehwar to 6 October city, and towards the end of the highway a man was lying on the ground with his motorcycle next to him. Of course there were half a dozen people gathered around him and no medics on site. It looked serious as he wasn’t moving.
Action:
– Safely –and calmly- parked the car away from the accident while putting the waiting sign on (first rule is your safety).
– Locked the car, left my belongings inside and grabbed my first aid kit.
– When I reached the victim, I asked for his permission to help and started talking to him as he was conscious and breathing. On a personal note, I noticed the men made way for me when I approached (usually I have to push them away).
– Asked a bystander to call for an ambulance (first thing to do in Egypt!). Several people called them from different numbers.
– Made sure the victim was breathing and not bleeding (second item on the checklist).
– At this point, it was obvious the patient had several fractures and we had to add the possibility of a spinal injury (as he was thrown from the motorbike). So we treated for shock by covering him with an emergency blanket, stabilized his head and waited for the ambulance to arrive. He wanted to move but we refused to do so as this could aggravate his condition.
– We kept on talking to the victim, to make sure he was conscious and lucid (another sign for shock or a concussion).
– Ambulance arrived after 20 minutes (no comment) and he was taken to the hospital. We used that spare time to call his work colleagues to come and collect his belonging and go with him to the hospital.
Lesson learned:
– Never panic, be calm and try to assist within the scope of your training as much as you can.
– In traffic accidents, it is always recommended never to move the patient unless there is an immediate danger. In this case he was already on the side and there was a bystander diverting incoming cars. Moving him could have damaged his condition. So when in doubt, do not move the patient.
– Always keep refreshed with your first aid skills and keep a first aid kit in your car.
The objective of this post is for learning and to try to minimize the impact of such accidents in the future.

علم الاسعافات الاولية ممكن تنقذ ارواح الناس
امبارح كنت سايقة علي المحور وفي اخر السكة لاقينا حادثة موتوسيكل وراجل علي الارض. الناس كانت متلميه حواليه ومكانش فيه مسعفيين. الحادثه كانت جامده والراجل كان علي الارض مش بيتحرك.
عملنا ايه
– ركنت العربيه بهدوء وفي امان بعيد عن موقع الحادثة ووضعت إشارة الانتظار بتاعة العربية (القاعدة الأولى هي السلامة).
– قفلت العربية بالمفتاح وسيت حاجتي جوه واخذت شنطة الإسعافات الأولية.
– عندما وصلت مكان الحادثه، المصاب كان مستجيب (واعي و يتنفس) فاستأذنت لمساعدته وبدأت التكلم معه.
– طلبت من الناس حوالينا يطلبوا الاسعاف (كذا شخص عمل كده واتكلم من كذا نمرة)
-بعد التاكد من ان المصاب مستجيب (يتنفس) اتاكدت من عدم وجود اي نزيف (البند الثاني على قائمة المراجعة).
– كان من الواضح ان المصاب عنده كسور واحتمال اصابه عمود فقرى بسبب طبيعه الحادثة (اي حادث طريق اشتبه اصابة العمود الفقرى). بعد كده عالجنا الصدمة بتغطيية المصاب بباطنية طوارئ، ثبتنا رأسه واستنينا الاسعاف. المصاب كان عايز يتحرك بس احنا رفضنا علشان حالته ماتتدهورش.
– كملنا التحدث مع المصاب، للتأكد من انه واعيي ومش بيهلوس(علامة أخرى لصدمة أو ارتجاج).
– الإسعاف وصل بعد 20 دقيقة (لاتعليق) وتم نقله الى المستشفى. استعملنا الوقت ده نكلم زمايله في الشعل علشان ياخدوا الوتوسيكل وييجوا المستشفى.
الدروس المستفادة:
– الهدوء وعدم الهلع، ومحاولة المساعدة في نطاق تدريبك وعلي قد ما الظروف تسمح.
– في حوادث المرور، من المستحسن عدم تحريك المصاب بدون لازمة وفي حالة عدم وجود خطر لان تحريكه ممكن تخلي حالته اسوء. في الموقف ده المصاب كان علي جنب الطريق وواحد من المشاة كان واقف بيشاور للعربيات اللي جاية فى وشنا. تاني: في حالة الشك وعدم وجود خطر ماتحركش المصاب او تطلعه من العربية.
– اتعلم الاسعافات الاولية بصفه دورية واحتفظ بشنطة اسعافات اولية قي العربية.
هدف البوست ده للتعلم ومحاولة تخفيف الاثار الناتجة من حوادث الطرق ديه في المستقبل.
